For over a hundred years people have learned how to dance by memorizing patterns, learning set routines, or following pictures of feet on the floor. They spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours memorizing how to execute a step to performance-level perfection. Along the way, their dancing turns into something they never intended — a contest, something to “push through,” a chore. Meanwhile, their true goal, dancing with ease and confidence, with a sense of fun, spontaneity, and joy, is never achieved.
